The Society of American Foresters, South Carolina Division's 2015 summer meeting will focus on changing markets and its impact on forest industry planning and expansion. Besides the traditional markets of lumber and paper, other forest products like oriented strand board, biomass, wood pellets, fuel chips, and a strong export market have gained a foothold in South Carolina's forest industry and will increase in the future. This will impact decisions on forest management, mill expansion and renovations, and forest policy.

The field trip will be a tour of Norbord, Inc. OSB plant in Kinards, SC. At 1:30 on Wednesday, June 10, Enoree Chapter sponsored vans will provide transportation of the 14 mile trip to the manufactoring facility adn treturn to Newberry by approximately 5:30pm. Norbord, Inc., which just merged with Ensworth, opened at Kinards in January 2000. It has one of the few continuous press OSB machines in the country. It has just finished a major revovation wich enables them to utilize smaller wood. It handles 700 loads of pine a week.
