North Carolina, also known as ‘tar heel state’, has over 18 million acres of productive forestland, which supports a vibrant forest product industry throughout the state. In 2019, the forest sector contributed about $35 billion in industry output and employed over 148,000 people with a payroll of $8.5 billion in North Carolina. Besides a substantial economic contribution, North Carolina’s forests also offer multiple ecological and cultural benefits. Private forestlands are sequestering the emissions of 2.6M cars annually driven on North Carolina’s roads.
